Students come to Northwestern Law from all over the world to study.

Students from the United States chose to pursue their legal studies here because we offer a rich and varied curriculum that includes extensive opportunities to study international and comparative law, both here in Chicago and abroad. International lawyers chose to pursue additional legal studies here as well, through one of our LLM programs. By bringing the perspectives and experience from legal practice in their home countries, they enrich our community of scholars in innumerable ways. Together, these students create one of the most diverse and interesting student bodies of any law school in the United States.

Northwestern Law faculty have taught and studied around the world, and many of them are engaged in ongoing international research and service projects. For example, the Center for International Human Rights conducts research, provides public and professional education, and advocates around pressing international issues. Scholars from major research universities across the globe visit campus to participate in colloquia throughout the school year. Additionally, students have access to an extensive collection of international legal resources through the Pritzker Legal Research Center.

The International Programs Office facilitates participation in our dynamic study abroad and international joint degree programs. Our International Team Project courses provides opportunities for students to conduct research and field studies abroad so that they may gain firsthand experience in legal and business environments outside the United States.

Northwestern Law also offers a concentration in International Law, which allows students to focus on three areas: public international law, international business law, and comparative law.

There are a number of extra-curricular activities that focus on international law as well, including student-run scholarly journals that focus on either international business or international human rights. And each year, teams of students are selected to participate in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court and the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court.
